PROVO, Utah (AP) - A Provo man accused of torturing several cats is pleading guilty to felony animal torture.

Spencer Pedersen was suspected in the deaths of up to 11 cats before he entered the pleas to torture of a companion animal and drug possession charges Tuesday.

He faces zero to 5 years in prison on each charge.

He was arrested about a month after the first incident on Oct. 15, when police say a kitten was found doused in gasoline and set on fire in a gutter. The animal was later euthanized.

Investigators believe the 26-year-old man got the cats by responding to classified ads online.

Court records show prosecutors have agreed to reduce the seriousness of the charges on his record if he successfully completes probation. His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
