Suburban New Orleans authorities say about a dozen officers fired at a teenager who’s accused of hitting a sheriff’s deputy with a stolen car and shooting at police cars during a chase Thursday night.

Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, tells The Associated Press that about 10 sheriff’s deputies and two Gretna police officers fired at 17-year—old Ray John Brown of New Orleans.

Brown is black. Fortunato did not know the race of the deputies. Gretna police did not immediately respond to a voicemail query.

Authorities tell news outlets the officer is being treated for an injured leg and Brown for a bullet wound in the stomach. Their conditions Friday were not immediately available, but officials have said neither injury was life-threatening.
