LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Newton County man stabbed his wife, dropped her near a hospital and then drove away with their three children before later surrendering.

News outlets report that 37-year-old Leroy Coleman is facing aggravated assault charges in connection with the attack inside the family’s apartment Thursday night.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says Coleman dropped his wife near an Atlanta hospital and continued to DeKalb County with the children, who ranged in age from 4 to 12 years old.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the children early Friday. About 30 minutes later, deputies say Coleman called 911 to surrender.

Officers found Coleman and the children in a Lithonia Wal-Mart parking lot.

The wife was listed in fair condition.

It is unknown whether Coleman has an attorney.
