WAGONER, Okla. (AP) - A Cherokee County man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison in connection to the death of a rancher in 2015.

The Tahlequah Daily Press (https://bit.ly/2gJPyug ) reports that Cheyenne Mason Watts pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Thursday in the death of 88-year-old Charley Kirk.

Watts and Paul Dean Newberry were accused of breaking into Kirk’s home and killing him during what prosecutors described as a home invasion gone awry. Newberry pleaded guilty to several charges, including first-degree murder and robbery with a weapon.

Newberry was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
