FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A Flagstaff shelter has opened four new rooms for homeless families who need a warm place to sleep.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2h2YzBZ ) that Sunshine Rescue Mission Inc. will make the family rooms available from now until April 1. They are the only rooms in Flagstaff where single fathers and couples can find free shelter with their children.

Interim Director Ken Repkie says The Mission saw a need for such rooms after noticing that lots of homeless families came in for meals.

Family Resource Center Coordinator Lucy Garcia says about 230 children of 9,600 in the Flagstaff Unified School District had no permanent housing in fall 2016, and the number is expected to be closer to 350 or 400 by the end of the school.
