TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police have identified a man killed during an exchange of gunfire that left two police officers wounded.

Police say 27-year-old Jose N. Barron Gomez was the man fatally wounded in an apartment Thursday morning as the officers sought to take him into custody on a felony arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument.

Officer Jorge Tequida remains hospitalized. He was shot in the shoulder and police said the round went through his arm and into his chest.

Officer Doug Wilfert was released from the hospital Thursday after being treated for a leg wound.

The officers were both wearing protective vests. They’re members of a special unit that tracks down wanted suspects.
