ENDICOTT, N.Y. (AP) - A firefighter for an upstate New York village has been charged with setting fire to his home last summer.

State police say firefighters in Endicott, just west of Binghamton, responded to a fire at a home around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 10 and extinguished the blaze. The family of four living there escaped uninjured.

Police say after an investigation they arrested 41-year-old Jason Stokes on Thursday and charged him with arson. Troopers say Stokes is the homeowner.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton reports (https://press.sn/2gV48OA) that Stokes has worked as a firefighter with the Endicott Fire Department since March 2005.

Stokes is being held Friday in the Broome County Jail pending his arraignment. It couldn’t be learned from authorities if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
