CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Police Department has stationed two large vehicles just outside the downtown Christkindl Market to act as barriers to prevent the kind of deadly truck attack that happened in Germany this week.
Shoppers and merchants alike say they appreciate the beefed up security that also includes other police vehicles parked just outside the market at Daley Plaza. They say they feel safer because of the measures.
The market was jam-packed at lunchtime on Wednesday. Shopper said that whether or not there was increased security they were determined to enjoy the event that has been held at the plaza for two decades.
Frieder Frotscher owns a stand that sells German steins. He says he believes if he stayed away it would be exactly what terrorists want.
