ROME, N.Y. (AP) - Police in upstate New York have arrested three suspects for breaking into a parked car and then assaulting the owner and another man who came to his aid.

The incident occurred Monday on a residential street in Rome, 45 miles north of Syracuse.

Police say two of the suspects were charged with gang assault. A 15-year-old male also was arrested and turned over to the police juvenile aid division.

Police say the owner of the car woke up to the sound of a vehicle alarm. When he stepped outside to investigate he found the suspects rummaging through his car. Police say the trio attacked him and another man who came out of house to help the victim.

Both men suffered injuries.

Police say one of the suspects displayed a knife.
