GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - A Delaware woman has been found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of a 10-month-old boy who was found unresponsive at her Millsboro home day care.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports (https://delmarvane.ws/2h5zw16 ) 52-year-old Valorie Handy was found guilty Friday following a two-and-a-half week trial.

Troopers were called to Handy’s day care in January 2015 after a worker reportedly found Charles “Trey” Laws III unresponsive when trying to wake him from a nap. The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Prosecutors alleged Handy administered an illegal and fatal dose of Benadryl to get the child to fall asleep. Her defense attorneys argued she didn’t administer the fatal dose and that some evidence police did not seize could have pointed to other suspects.

She will be sentenced later.
