JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers are investigating after a Juneau police officer shot a suspect.

According to a news release from the Juneau Police Department, police responded early Saturday to reports of a single-vehicle crash and when they arrived on scene they found the driver of an SUV had barricaded himself in the vehicle.

The 38-year-old Juneau resident failed to comply with officer instructions and was shot once by one of the officers. Officers immediately requested medical assistance for the suspect, who was taken to the Bartlett Regional Hospital and later to a hospital in Seattle.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The department will not release the names of the officers for at least 24 hours.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
