FELTON, Del. (AP) - Police say a 32-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed when he was hit by a car driven by an off-duty police officer in Delaware.

Delaware State Police say Christopher Thompson of Coatesville, Pennsylvania was driving a pick-up truck that was pulling a 30-foot box trailer when he pulled onto the right hand shoulder to address a mechanical problem early Saturday. Police say part of the trailer remained in the travel lane.

Police say Thompson was standing in the road’s eastbound lane after placing a floor jack under one of the trailer’s tires when he was hit by an SUV driven by the off-duty Harrington Police Officer.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they will not immediately release the name of the Harrington officer.
