SPOTSVYLVANIA, Va. (AP) - Authorities say they are questioning a person of interest in the killing of a gas station store clerk in Spotsylvania County.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says a 54-year-old clerk at a Sunoco Station on Jefferson Davis Highway was killed early Saturday. Police have said clerk was “brutally attacked.”

The sheriff’s office said 50-year-old David Junior Washington of Spotsylvania was taken into custody Saturday for questioning. The sheriff’s office says he was taken into custody at the Dunning Mills apartments in Fredericksburg without incident. It was not immediately clear Saturday evening whether Washington has an attorney.

Authorities say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
