HOUSTON (AP) - A series of thunderstorms in Central and Southeast Texas this weekend could drop up to 11 inches of rain in some areas.

The National Weather Service says that Galveston on Saturday had set a daily rainfall record with nearly 3.4 inches of rain, surpassing the record of 2.64 inches set in 1965.

In San Antonio, some parts of the city had received nearly four inches of rain, prompting some street flooding and at least one water rescue after a mother and her son who were in a vehicle got stuck in high water on one roadway.

The National Weather Service says the intermittent thunderstorms are expected to cause scattered showers through Monday morning.
