ADGER, Ala. (AP) - A man has died in a work-related accident at a coal mining facility in Jefferson County.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to Oak Grove Resources at 11 a.m. Friday to investigate a report of a man injured by mining equipment.

Al.com (https://bit.ly/2gKMpdk ) reports deputies learned the victim, whose name hasn’t been released, was conducting maintenance on a piece of equipment when it collapsed on him. The accident happened about 800 feet below ground.

Other mine workers administered first aid and then carried the victim to paramedics waiting at the surface. He was pronounced dead when he arrived on the surface.

Sheriff’s officials said the Federal Mine Health and Safety Administration is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
