SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Salt Lake County Deputy Mayor Lori Bays says she’s resigning from her position as of Jan. 1.

In an email to colleagues obtained by the Deseret News, Bays says she wants to return to a role where she can more directly partner with individuals and organizations in the community to improve lives.

Bays submitted her resignation on Nov. 30.

She says she’ll be traveling over the holidays and will only be in the office until Dec. 9.

County Mayor Ben McAdams says he appreciates Bays‘ service.

McAdams says he’ll be making announcements soon about an executive team reorganization in his office.
