ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York state holiday tree lighting is slated for Sunday evening at Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany.

And there’s an added bonus for those who plan to attend. The Hannaford supermarket chain is offering free skate rentals and free parking after 3 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony begins at 5:15 p.m. and concludes with a fireworks show.

Hannaford also is again offering free skate rentals at the Empire State Plaza ice rink each Friday of the 2016-17 season. It’s the fifth straight year the supermarket chain has partnered with the state Office of General Services to provide the free rentals.

Since the program’s inception in 2012, approximately 15,000 individuals have taken advantage of it.

The rink officially opened on Friday.
