NEW YORK (AP) - The Bronx district attorney plans to ask a judge to impanel a special grand jury to investigate the fatal police shooting of 66-year-old Deborah Danner.

The mentally ill woman was shot at her Bronx apartment in October after she threatened a police sergeant with a bat.

The police commissioner and mayor have condemned the shooting. They say the sergeant had a stun gun but didn’t use it. The sergeant has been placed on modified duty.

In a statement released Monday, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said she will conduct a “thorough, fair investigation” into the matter.
