WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.

LaToya Foster, a spokeswoman for Bowser, said by telephone that the mayor is set to meet with the president elect Tuesday at Trump Tower in New York. Foster says Bowser requested the meeting.

Foster says the issues on the agenda are public safety, education, infrastructure and statehood for the District of Columbia. In a statement, Bowser says it’s a “longstanding point of pride for Washingtonians to be gracious hosts for Presidents and the federal government.”

After the election, the Democratic mayor noted that 93 percent of District residents voted for candidates other than Trump, saying “some mending of relationships” was needed.
