GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 13-year-old western New York boy died over the weekend after he was struck by a fire department vehicle just outside of Rochester.

Police say Dominic Cook was hit by a Lake Shore Fire Department vehicle when he entered the road just after noon on Sunday in the Monroe County town of Greece.

Town police haven’t released any other details. Calls to the Lake Shore Fire Department weren’t immediately returned.

Neighbor Holly McMullen says she heard screeching tires and was expecting the sound of a car crash next. But all she heard were screams.

Cook was pronounced dead at an area hospital following the accident.

The Hilton Central School District has notified its crisis team and is organizing support for those affected by the loss.
