HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to killing his mother’s boyfriend.

The Courant (https://cour.at/2g51tGj ) reports that 24-year-old Tevin Jiles was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the January 2015 shooting of 46-year-old Michael Leon.

The judge accepted the plea agreement, noting there were problems with taking the case to trial, including reluctant witnesses.

According to the warrant for Tevin Jiles’ arrest, Leon and Gloria Jiles argued about Leon’s alleged infidelity. Gloria Jiles told police she threw a candle at Leon and he threatened her with a bottle of liquor. Both went outside and Gloria Jiles’ children.

Surveillance video captured the sound of gunshots and then of Gloria Jiles’ children running away. Police determined that Tevin Jiles shot Leon.
