COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Police say a 42-year-old Phenix City man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his 83-year-old step-grandmother.

Columbus Police Maj. Gil Slouchick tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that Angelo Short remains in the Muscogee County Jail also charged with one count of theft by taking motor vehicle missing from Peggy Gamble’s home following her death.

Short is set to face the murder charge Wednesday in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Gamble was found dead in her home Thursday.

A preliminary autopsy report showed she was stabbed seven times.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Short.
