PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police are still searching for a suspect in a weekend shooting that left a man seriously injured.

Police say 41-year-old Alberto Rivera is at-large and considered extremely dangerous. They say Rivera broke into his ex-wife’s home on Sunday and shot her boyfriend in the same room as Rivera’s two children.

The woman had told authorities that she and her boyfriend were sleeping when they heard a noise. She told officers the man went to the living room to the check it out, when she heard a sliding glass door shatter and a gunshot.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

Maj. David Lapatin says Rivera already had a previous warrant out of Cranston for assaulting a police officer with a car.
