WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Williams County sheriff’s authorities say a 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after apparently accidentally shooting himself in the head.

The sheriff’s office was called to the shooting at a rural Williston home at about 1:30 p.m. Monday. Deputies found the boy conscious and crying inside a home in the subdivision about five miles northwest of Williston.

Capt. Verlan Kvande of the Williams County Sheriff’s Office tells the Williston Herald (https://bit.ly/2ghxFVd ) the shooting appears to be a “tragic accident” but remains under investigation.

Kvande says at least one parent was home at the time.

The boy was first taken to Minot for treatment, and later transferred to a hospital in Fargo.

Authorities don’t know yet what type of gun was involved, or how the child got access to it.
