LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Authorities say a toddler has died and a man has been wounded after being shot at their home in Lexington.

Police said in a statement that two people reportedly forced their way into the home Monday night demanding money before several shots were fired hitting the man and the child. The child’s mother, who also lived at the home, wasn’t hit.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the girl as 2-year-old Nova Marie Gallman and said she died early Tuesday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Police Lt. Jeremy Tuttle told media that the man, who is the woman’s boyfriend, was in stable condition at UK Medical Center.

Police say they apprehended the suspects at a hospital where both had sought treatment for wounds suffered during the gunfire.
