SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A young girl who was ejected from an SUV in a Salt Lake City collision has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Police say the 9-year-old girl had been riding in a Ford Expedition with her mother and four other children Wednesday when they were struck by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign.

The girl was thrown from the vehicle and remained hospitalized Thursday.

The 42-year-old driver of the SUV and the other children sustained minor injuries.

Police say the 73-year-old truck driver has been cited for failing to stop at the sign, and the girl’s mother was cited for a seat belt violation.
