NEW YORK (AP) - A 35-year-old man is heading to prison for strangling a New York City woman and tossing her mutilated body off a pier.

Prosecutors say Charles Wright was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years to life in prison after pleading guilty last month to second-degree murder and fourth-degree grand larceny.

Prosecutors say he choked 32-year-old Shaniqua Davis to death during an argument on July 25, 2014 in East New York.

Authorities say he cut off her fingertips, tied her hands and feet and stuffed her body into a laundry bag before dumping the remains off the Canarsie Pier. The remains were found on a tidal island in Jamaica Bay ten days later.

Police say Wright used the victim’s ATM card at a grocery store and her credit card at fast food restaurants.
