BUTTE FALLS, Ore. (AP) - A Butte Falls teen is in custody after officials say he showed a gun on school grounds.

The Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/9rk6zW ) that according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old boy got in a fight at Butte Falls High School. School staff told deputies that the teen flashed a pistol tucked in the waistband of his pants.

The teen did not attend the high school and no shots were fired during the incident.

The fight and subsequent display of a firearm led to a lockdown at the high school and nearby Butte Falls Elementary.

The teen was taken into custody and placed at Jackson County Juvenile Detention Hall on misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing. A 9mm handgun found on the scene was taken into evidence.
