PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Peoria police say two burglary suspects rang a home’s doorbell before they broke a window and had begun entering the home when the homeowner shot and wounded one of them.

Police spokesman Jay Davis says a person with a minor gunshot wound to his leg then appeared at a nearby convenience store and has been transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Davis says a couple who live in the home didn’t answer the doorbell Thursday morning before hearing glass break. The man investigated the sound of glass breaking and shot an intruder he saw halfway through the window.

Both suspects fled, and Davis says one remains at large.

Davis says ringing a doorbell is a common tactic of burglars to determine whether residents are home.
