SAN DIEGO (AP) - A San Diego court will determine whether a recently arrested man is a former children’s TV show host known as “Mr. Wonder,” who fled Louisiana in 1979 amid allegations he sexually abused children on a camping trip.

Authorities say Frank John Selas IIII assumed a new identity in the San Diego area, where he often invited children to his house to swim and was a Cub Scout leader.

Thursday’s court hearing is intended to establish whether or not the man is the fugitive, which he denied in an earlier hearing after his arrest in January.

At that time a defense attorney read a family statement saying he was well-loved and respected in the San Diego community.
