SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities are searching for an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the severe beating of a 72-year-old great-grandfather at a Santa Ana gas station.

Investigators say Jose Chacon of Santa Ana was exiting a 76 station Feb. 7 when he tripped and fell on top of a car belonging to Samuel Alvarez.

As the two men argued, Alvarez grabbed an aluminum bat and Chacon picked up some kind of pipe to defend himself. Alvarez struck Chacon several times, knocking him to the ground and causing multiple face fractures and other injuries.

The Orange County Register says (https://bit.ly/1TaC7BP) he’s scheduled for surgery Thursday.

Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna says officers are searching for Alvarez, who is also wanted for a probation violation. The case is being investigated as an attempted murder.
