BRUTUS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say weather-related accidents involving multiple vehicles have shut down a 30-mile stretch of the Thruway’s westbound lanes in central New York.

The Thruway Authority says all westbound lanes are blocked by an accident Thursday between Exit 39 just west of Syracuse and Exit 40 in the Cayuga County town of Brutus. An earlier 15-mile westbound closure between the two exits has been extended to Exit 41 in Seneca County.

The authority says all westbound traffic must get off Interstate 90 at Exit 39 and can re-enter at Exit 41.

Troopers say accidents involving multiple tractor-trailers and other vehicles have occurred. Trooper say one person has been seriously injured.

There’s no immediate estimate on when the westbound lanes will reopen.

The National Weather Service reports snow and winds gusting to 40 mph in the Syracuse area.
