TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A 20-year-old Verona man faces a charge in the shooting death of his older brother.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1Kg4ey0 ) Christopher Heard was arraigned Friday for allegedly killing his brother, 21-year-old Bryson Heard, Thursday.

Justice Court Judge Chuck Hopkins set bond at $1 million. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could comment on the case.

Police Chief J.B. Long says the shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. The suspected murder weapon was recovered and has been sent to the state crime lab in Jackson for testing.

Long says the Heards’ aunt told investigators her nephews began fighting after the older one made a statement to the younger one about their mother. She says the younger man then got a weapon and shot his brother twice.
