RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Eastern North Carolina has taken the brunt of the latest winter weather, producing the odd image of snow on beach chairs.

The National Weather Service said Friday that a Winter Weather Advisory was in effect until midnight for coastal counties including Washington, Tyrrell, Dare and Hyde. It predicted 1 to 3 inches of snow and trace amounts of ice.

Carteret County issued a news release warning residents that road conditions could be hazardous through Saturday morning because of cold overnight temperatures.

The weather made for unusual images along the coast of North Carolina. Virginia-based WVEC-TV showed images on its website of snow accumulating on ocean-front deck chairs in the Outer Banks, as well as cars moving slowly through falling flakes in Elizabeth City.

Schools, businesses and local governments reported closures or delays.
