BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Plans are moving forward on a successor for a playground in Bay City that city officials deemed hazardous.

The Bay City Times (https://bit.ly/1KfoEat ) reports the city and a committee charged with building a new Imagination Station are going ahead with plans to construct it at Bigelow Park. The Bay City Commission is set to vote Monday on hiring a Saginaw firm to design the playground.

The original Imagination Station was built in 1996 with help from volunteers and was torn down in April. The structure at Veterans Memorial Park had deteriorated over the years, and pressure-treated wood used to build it was contaminating the soil, which came back positive for arsenic in a city test.

It is estimated that building the new playground could cost as much as $300,000.
