PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Police say two people and a dog are dead after a man apparently stabbed his wife, the animal and himself in Rhode Island.

Officers were called to a Pawtucket residence around 5 p.m. Thursday for reports of a disturbance.

Police say a 50-year-old woman was found unresponsive with stab wounds. Her 52-year-old husband was found barely conscious with significant stab wounds. A dead dog at the scene had also been stabbed.

The two were taken to Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Authorities didn’t immediately identify them.

Police say it appears that the man stabbed his wife and the dog before stabbing himself. Authorities are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.
