HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - A Hamden man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in a burning house in December.

Police say 26-year-old Benjamin Carpenter is charged with murder, first-degree arson, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

Forty-five-year-old Jennifer Antonier was found dead on the second floor of her Hamden home after an early morning fire Dec. 26. Police said Antonier suffered injuries unrelated to the fire.

A car registered to Antonier was found burned in New Haven shortly after.

Police Chief Thomas Wydra said Thursday during a press conference that Carpenter knew Antonier. He says the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.

Police haven’t disclosed a possible motive.

Carpenter is being held on $1 million bail.

It’s unclear whether he’s represented by an attorney.
