TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) - Authorities near Houston have exhumed the body of an unidentified teenager to determine if he’s the same teen who went missing more than 40 years ago in Mississippi.

The Galveston County Daily News reports ( ) an employee at the Texas City cemetery where the teen was buried in 1973 discovered new information that led to the exhumation.

A DNA sample was gathered and testing will be done to see if there’s any link to a 17-year-old who fled from a juvenile detention center in Harrison County, Mississippi, in July 1973.

About a month later a teen was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 45 in Texas City.

The cemetery employee used identifying information from newspaper accounts and then ran a search using the federal National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
