MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A 9-year-old boy has died in a crash in southern Wisconsin that authorities are blaming on icy roads.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 2 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 18/151 in the Town of Blue Mounds. It says a northbound SUV lost control on the slippery highway. The driver and four passengers ages 18 to 7 were taken to UW Hospital. It says the 9-year-old who died there was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. His name has not been released.

The sheriff’s office says it responded to numerous accidents Sunday due to snow-covered and icy roads.

Madison police reported at least 39 crashes. And the Wisconsin State Patrol says it was busy with accidents on Interstate 94 in Dane and Rock counties.
