SYDNEY (AP) - Football Federation Australia has fined Melbourne Victory 50,000 Australian dollars ($35,500) and imposed a suspended competition points deduction following fan disturbances in the A-League Melbourne derby last weekend.

Seven flares were let off at AAMI Park, and there were also allegations of an assault on a television news crew and objects thrown at a Melbourne City police and police officers.

Victory’s three-point sanction will be imposed if there are any similar breaches in the next 12 months.

The FFA imposed the same sanctions on Western Sydney Wanderers earlier this month, after fans of the club let off 25 flares during a match in Melbourne.

FFA chief executive David Gallop said the “behavior of a number of Melbourne Victory supporters last Saturday night was deplorable.”
