LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured a teenage bicyclist.

Calvin Sousa, of Lowell, is facing charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor say a 15-year-old bicyclist was hit by a vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Friday on Lawrence Street in Lowell. The driver apparently fled the scene.

The victim suffered serious injuries and is currently in stable condition at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

Sousa is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 17 in Lowell District Court.

It’s unclear whether he’s represented by an attorney.
