COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Chamber is putting on a symposium to discuss how to close the state’s skills gap and build a modern workforce.

The two-day Workforce Development Symposium starts Wednesday at the Columbia Marriott downtown.

Organizers say participants include business leaders, legislators, educators and state officials including Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt and Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the Department of Employment and Workforce.

It wraps up with the presentation of the South Carolina Chamber’s 2016 Workforce Innovator Awards.
