BALTIMORE (AP) - Three men were convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 16-month-old boy who was in the backseat of his father’s car when a group opened fire on it.

A Baltimore jury on Wednesday convicted 23-year-old Eddie Tarver, 23-year-old Dequan Shields and 25-year-old Rashid Mayo in the death of Carter Scott, The Baltimore Sun reports (

Prosecutors say on May 24, 2013, a group of men ran up to Rashaw Scott’s car and fired at least 16 shots. Rashaw Scott was the intended target; he was hit but survived.

This was the second trial for Tarver, Shields and Mayo. The three were first tried in April 2015, but jurors could not agree on a verdict.
