MICHIGAN CENTER, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say three snowmobilers have been rescued after they ended up in the icy waters of a lake in southern Michigan.

WILX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1QkU4hY ) rescuers responded early Wednesday after the men hit open water while riding two snowmobiles across Center Lake near the Jackson County community of Michigan Center.

The station says the men were able to get to an island in the lake before being reached by a rescue team. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Officials have issued recent warnings about unstable ice in Michigan this winter because of rising and falling temperatures.
