MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A former northern New Jersey high school teacher accused of having sex with a male student has accepted a plea deal.

Nicole McDonough pleaded guilty Tuesday in Morristown to a second-degree official misconduct charge.

The 33-year-old Mount Olive woman was arrested in December 2014 after Morris County prosecutors and Mendham police said she had sex with a student while serving as an English teacher at West Morris Mendham High School.

McDonough wasn’t charged with sexual assault due to the student’s age.

McDonough admitted she had sex twice with an 18-year-old student in 2014 and knowingly violated school policy. She must serve three years supervised probation in a pre-trial intervention program.

McDonough must also forfeit her teaching certificates. Her lawyer says she’s happy with the deal.
