PLAQUEMINE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a former Iberville Parish teacher faces up to 50 years in prison after pleading no contest to charges related to sexual affairs he had with several students.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1LtjvGP) Keavin Keith left the Iberville Parish Courthouse on Tuesday refusing to answer any questions related to his decision to plead no contest, which has the same effect as a guilty plea.

Keith is due back in court May 11 for sentencing on five counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and 30 counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Engolio called Tuesday’s court proceedings a good resolution to a case with an overwhelming amount of evidence of wrongdoing stacked against Keith.
