COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Former Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee has endorsed an anti-abortion activist who’s trying to unseat a state senator in Ohio.

In a video, the former Arkansas governor says Republican Janet Folger Porter’s campaign is a champion “for faith, family and for freedom.”

Porter, of Hinckley, has ardently pushed for the passage of the so-called heartbeat bill, which would ban most abortions after the first detectable fetal heartbeat. She and her organization, Faith2Action, have used ads and demonstrations to target state senators for not acting on the legislation.

Porter faces Republican Sen. Larry Obhof (OB’-hawf), of Medina, in the March 15 primary for the 22nd Senate District.

Obhof tells The Columbus Dispatch that groups including Ohio Right to Life have endorsed him, and he believes people are familiar with his record.
