HOUSTON (AP) - The deputy superintendent of the Houston Independent School District will take over when Superintendent Terry Grier steps down at the end of the month.
Houston Independent School District trustees on Wednesday selected Ken Huewitt as interim superintendent. Huewitt currently is chief financial officer for HISD, which is the largest school district in Texas.
Huewitt, who joined HISD in 2001, will assume his new role March 1 amid the process to replace Grier.
Grier last September announced plans to step down after six years leading HISD, which has about 215,000 students. Grier, at 65, cited age and recent knee-replacement surgery as factors in his decision.
