DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Scott County judge has denied a motion to acquit an 18-year-old accused of stabbing another student in Davenport.

Prosecutors say Drew Romkey stabbed 18-year-old Jacob Woodard four times in the stomach in April in a residential area. Woodward survived, but required an extended stay in the hospital.

Romkey was charged with felony willful injury.

The Quad-City Times (https://bit.ly/1U7jYpb ) reports that District Court Judge Joel Barrows denied the motion for acquittal on Tuesday. Romkey’s attorneys had asked for an acquittal after Barrows determined that a jury was deadlocked in the trial and declared a mistrial on Jan. 25.

The judge’s denial paves the way for prosecutors to try Romkey again on May 9.
