LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say a knife-wielding man shot and killed by officers in Van Nuys was suspected in a stabbing at an apartment.

Officer Matthew Ludwig says responding officers found one person with stab wounds and at least two other people with other injuries at the apartment Sunday.

Other officers arrived on the scene and found the suspect outside the apartment with a knife. Ludwig says it’s unclear what prompted police to open fire.

Twenty-six-year-old Rammy Jaradat died at a hospital.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told police commissioners Tuesday that the shooting happened after officers responded to reports of a “screaming woman who had been attacked by a man with a knife.”

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/20DJVwk) Jaradat was the fourth person shot and killed by LAPD officers this year.
